Rebuilt in Him: Steadfast

I made a mistake. A grave mistake.
I built my house on the sand.
It felt so soft between my toes
So I chose to dig them in.

Grain by grain they covered me
And gave me a false sense
Of security that I knew was wrong
But grew proud in my pretense.

The calm night still and starry
I close my eyes to rest
Until the storm came rolling in
And put my home to test.

The winds grew strong. The waves came crashing.
And sand began to shift.
So quickly every single grain
Was caught up in the drift.

This house I built now crumbling down
A fool, I seemed to be.
Alone I lay, cold and wet
The storm, the sea, and me.

Not alone. I see them now
The footprints in the sand.
The carpenter came walking up
To offer me hand.

Leading me away from shore
He shared with me the Way
To build my house upon the rock
And never go astray.

And now my home is firmly set
Rebuilt and made to last
Resting on the strongest place
In Him who is Steadfast.
