Drops of Frozen Gratitude

Snowflakes are drops of frozen gratitude

falling like feathers from the sky

in the longest months

that carry the most darkness

the kind of darkness

that makes you think you have lost vision

and maybe you have lost vision for a moment

and the darkness is more than just

pitch

it is also bitterly

cold

shivering and shrewd

biting away at your joy.

But then these droplets of heaven’s light

float down to the earth

glimmers of

shimmering hope

they are not like tulips and daffodils

announcing the pleasures of spring

because it is very much

still dark

and cold

and lonely

because nobody wants to get out in the cold

and they try to be home before it gets dark

dark so early

beckoning lonely with the

fading of the sun.

But the snow falls

and the hot cocoa warms

and the blue skies appear

and the icicles drip from the rooftops

crystal clear

with a new vision

and hope in the shape of a flake

frozen

but beautiful

gratitude.
